John E. Dirt

Bill Draheim

“Shock” star John E. Dirt has built a rock-n-roll dynasty on defiance and debauchery, burning bridges and making enemies on his meteoric rise to the top. But an apparent suicide brings the party to a close and Johnny is whisked off to rehab just in time to save his life. Or so goes the official story. After the ‘event,’ Johnny wakes up in a hospital room with absolutely no recollection of how he got there. For weeks as he recovers his only human contact is with a crippled roadie and a faceless woman who claims to be his nurse. Her disembodied voice invades his cell via intercom twenty four hours a day, issuing directives to facilitate his recovery. But for her part, she is reticent about his past and, perhaps more importantly, his future. Days turn into weeks. Tension grows between Johnny and his ‘caregivers’ after he realizes that the true purpose of his confinement is to get him to revert to type. The entertainment corporation that holds his contract misses their bad boy cash cow. A battle of wills begins, but Johnny is too broken, too weakened by his ordeals. He almost gives up until an unexpected clue that he’s left himself from prior cycles of rehabilitation brings his suppressed memories back in an overwhelming synaptic flood. Emboldened, he lashes out against his captors in a final act of defiance using the only weapon he has left: his music.
